A Book of Hate

‘The price of hating other human beings is loving oneself less.’ – Eldridge Cleaver

‘We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them.’ – Charles Caleb Colton

‘Love is blind; hate is deaf.’

‘I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.’ – James Baldwin

Sephy is a Cross, one of the privileged in a society where the ruling Crosses treat the pale-skinned noughts as inferiors. But her baby daughter has a nought father – Callum. Eaten up with bitterness, Callum’s brother Jude, blames Sephy for the terrible losses his family has suffered.

Now Jude’s life rests on a knife edge. Will Sephy be forced, once again, to take sides?

A razor-sharp and intensely moving novel, the second in the Noughts & Crosses sequence.

  2. i loved your book noughts and crosses i read it 5 times each time brought tears to my eyes grate job i cant wit to read knife edge

  3. As soon as I picked up Noughts & Crosses in my school library, I read it. I read the first chapter and then I couldn’t stop reading it. The book soon became addictive and hard to stop reading. When I finished reading Noughts & Crosses, I soon realised why everyone began describing the whole story, “powerful”. I had to find out what happened next so I next found Knife Edge in the library and began reading, I just couldn’t stop. I read for about 2 hours everyday when I came back from school and I’m just half way through the book. Malorie Blackman is now my favourite author and inspiration!

  4. The book was amazing I can’t wait to read Checkmate I read one chapter of it like a preview at the end of Knife Edge. I was really attached to the book because it was full of twists and turns and exciting bits and you actually played on the readers emotions! I love all your books and how mainly everything you right about is twisted around the fact that people are different in colour but no matter what colour they there is no need to judge them as everyone in this world deserves to be treated the same and there should be no difference between Black, White, Brown OR whatever colour we are all the same!!!

  5. The noughts and crosses series is the most powerful and moving series i have ever read. knife edge was such an amazing book.I cried when I read the letter that callum wrote to sephy. keep up the good work!

  6. Out of the noughts and crosses series i think this book is the darkest and coldest one. Jude’s character is very scary, but at the same time jude’s character shows that he can actually love but dosent want to. I finished this book in 3 days
